Commonly used materials include large 2-3 man boulders, 1 man quarry stone, concrete segmental block, interlocking concrete pavers, flagstone, ledge stone, field stone, thin rock and cultured stone. Projects that require mortar are generally more expensive, as they require more time and materials than alternative dry-set methods.
Water gardening is the use of moving water in a landscape. Stone is a key component in most water gardening projects. Projects include ponds, waterfalls, creeks, drilled rock bubblers and fountains. Sometimes water is not always present, as with a dry creek bed or rain garden. Water features can be created for almost any budget. A variety of pond skimmers, filtration systems, night lighting and plant materials can be incorporated to improve maintenance convenience and enhance aesthetic enjoyment.
